Combat search and rescue demo to be performed at New York air show

The New York Air Show at Stewart International Airport on August 29-30 will be the only air show in the country to feature a military Combat Search and Rescue Mission demonstration this year, giving attendees an up-close look at how our troops are rescued when they are behind enemy lines.Air Show

New York’s 106th Air National Guard Rescue Wing will showcase the training, courage and precision it takes to carry out their motto: “That Others May Live.” The demonstration will feature the HH-60 Pavehawk helicopter and a team of Pararescue Jumpers (PJs). This unit is based in Westhampton Beach, NY, and stand ready to go anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice.

“We are so fortunate to have this elite Air National Guard Unit on hand for a rare demonstration of how combat search, rescue and recovery is conducted” said Air Show Director Bryan Lilley.

In other Air Show news, ShopRite has signed on as the official grocery store for the New York Air Show and is offering the convenience of being able to purchase New York Air Show tickets at 31 ShopRite locations in the region. Active duty military and veterans can get a special 15 percent discount courtesy of ShopRite when they purchase at any participating store and show a military ID or VA card. The Air National Guard 106th Rescue Wing joins demonstrations from four branches of the US military including the Marine Corps’ Harrier Jet, the Air Force’s F-22 Raptor, the Navy’s F-18F Super Hornet and the Navy Seals Leap Frogs, as well as the Army’s West Point Parachute Team. Civilian aircraft will also be performing including the GEICO Skytypers, the Horsemen P-51 flight team, the B-25 Mitchell Bomber Panchito and four other civilian acts.
