LEGOLAND® NEW YORK RESORT POURS FIRST FOUNDATION FOR FIRST BUILDING
Construction on Track For Spring 2020 Opening
GOSHEN, NY (June 5, 2019) – As LEGOLAND® New York team members cheered, the first concrete foundation was poured today for the first building at LEGOLAND New York Resort!
“Construction is on track and we are excited to be opening our theme park in spring 2020,” said LEGOLAND New York Public Relations Manager Matt Besterman. “This is a major milestone for us, and there will be many more to come.”
To commemorate the occasion, members of the LEGOLAND New York team each built a LEGO® minifigure to represent them, and then placed the minifigures in the concrete – literally building the ultimate LEGO theme park destination on LEGO bricks!
“Our team is up to more than 30 Model Citizens,” Besterman said. “It will grow to about 100 by the end of this year, and to more than one thousand by the time LEGOLAND New York Resort opens. Each of us is proud to help build the ultimate LEGO theme park experience.”
Also in attendance were three members of LEGOLAND New York’s Kid Reporter Team: Matt, Mimi, and Abby. The foundation poured today is for the Big Shop, LEGOLAND New York Resort’s signature retail shop. Foundation and infrastructure work will continue throughout the site over the coming weeks.
“Our construction team has been working hard to get our site to this point, but a tremendous amount of work is also going on behind the scenes,” Besterman said. “Our rides and attractions are being built off-site for installation here in Goshen, and our Master Model Builders all over the world are assembling more than 15,000 LEGO models.”
The Big Shop at LEGOLAND New York Resort will be the largest of its kind in North America, and the second-largest in the world. It will carry the full range of LEGO and LEGOLAND New York products, including exclusive and hard-to-find LEGO merchandise.
When it opens in spring 2020, LEGOLAND New York Resort will be the largest LEGOLAND Park Merlin Entertainments has ever built, with more than 50 rides, shows and attractions on more than 150 acres.
