Give Where You Live: Hudson Valley Gives Takes Place Wednesday, May 15

Hudson Valley Gives, our region’s fourth annual day of giving to support HUNDREDS of nonprofits in seven counties, takes place on Wednesday, May 15. This 24-hour online fundraiser, powered by social media, unites charities in Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Sullivan, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester Counties in one common mission: Give Where You Live.

Since this initiative began three years ago, more than $600,000 has been raised to support critical services and life-enhancing programs for our friends and neighbors. Last year, more than $240,000 dollars was raised despite four tornadoes and thousands of people with no power or internet.

Hudson Valley Gives is led by the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan (CFOS), in partnership with the Mid-Hudson Valley Association of Fundraising Professionals. The time to register your nonprofit to participate is NOW. The time to donate on May 15, is from 12 am to 11:59 pm. All donations will help participating charities in their quest to win more than $30,000 in cash and prizes that will be awarded through a variety of fun contests.

“Give generously and give often,” said Michelle Hathaway, CFOS Director of Development. “There is something for everyone to support!”

Hudson Valley Gives, modeled after the internationally-known “Giving Tuesday,” at Thanksgiving time, is a similar concept with a local twist, said CFOS President and CEO Elizabeth Rowley. All HVG donations stay here in the Hudson Valley. Any local 501(c)(3) nonprofit or any charitable fund at any local community foundation can participate. To register – or to donate online – visit www.hvgives.org.

Chamber Members are invited to the HVG Celebration of Success Party, from 4-7 pm at Newburgh Brewing Company (88 South Colden Street) on May 15. A cash prize will be awarded to the attending nonprofit that raises the most money at the brewery. Donors of $25 or more will receive a T-shirt or a commemorative pint glass.
