(Newburgh, NY)  Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Orange County has been awarded $2,000 from the Ulster Savings Charitable Foundation for their One-to-One Mentoring programs. This organization provides a structured one-to-one mentoring relationship focused on the needs of the mentored youth, fostering caring, supportive, and enduring relationships in a community or site/school-based setting.

“As we work with our children in need, we know research-based evidence supports the fact that placing a caring adult in the life of a child who lacks that support at home, can make a huge difference in the choices they will make in the future,” said Sean Barton, President of the Board of Directors, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. “We greatly appreciate the support of the Ulster Savings Charitable Foundation to help us help these children,” he added.

BBBS is an evidence/research-based mentoring program serving all of Orange County with a direct, measurable, and lasting impact on children’s lives. Mentoring is proven to reduce the likelihood of violence, truancy, and substance abuse among participating youth, and improves their pro-social behaviors, confidence, school performance, and relationships. Their volunteers consist of high school students, college students, West Point cadets, business people, retirees, teachers, and a myriad of community members.

The Ulster Savings Charitable Foundation was formed in 2003 to assist the local community in areas of housing, education, and human services.
